Use can be dated back to the ancient Greeks and was used on the battlefield to help staunch the bleeding of wounded warriors. In fact, yarrow (Achillea millefolium) was named for Achilles whose mother used the plant to heal his famous wound. The word, “Millefolium,” means “a thousand leaves.”
Arnica ( Arnica montana) has been used for medicinal purposes since the 1500s and is still widely used today. Applied to the skin, arnica has been used to soothe muscle aches, reduce inflammation, and heal wounds. It is commonly used for injuries, such as sprains and bruises.
